How long, O Lord? Will you forget us forever?

   How long will you hide your face from our queer bodies?

How long, how long O Lord?

How long must I bear pain in my soul,

   and have sorrow in my heart all day long?

How long, how long O Lord?

How long shall my enemy be exalted over me? 

   How long shall laws be passed that deny my body?

How long, how long O Lord?

How long must we live under the violence of Stonewall?

   How long must Matthew Shepard’s body cry without rest?

How long, how long O Lord?

How long must we seek sanctuary with chosen family

   Only to have our sacred places come under attack

How long, how long O Lord?

How long must we cry out for the murder of trans lives

   Even before we can cry, our siblings are slaughtered at Club Q

How long, how long O Lord?

How long must Black, trans women be so vulnerable

   When their beauty testifies to the goodness of your creation.

Consider and answer me, O Lord my God!

   Give light to my eyes, or I will sleep the sleep of death,

And homophobes will say, ‘I have prevailed’;

   transphobes will rejoice because I am shaken.
